Opinion: We need to stop Russia right now

Scott McLean, opinion:

We need to do what is needed to stop Russia from taking over parts of Ukraine right now. Obviously, the threats by Vladimir Putin about the possibility of him choosing nuclear weapons is a serious worry. These annexations are clearly illegal and it's all the more reason to provide more powerful weapons and more money to Ukraine. Putin's obvious hunger for more and more power make him a very dangerous person who must be prevented from continuing his war against Ukraine. It is not his property and Putin and the Russian army must be pushed back, and it's my opinion as well that Ukraine should reclaim Crimea. But Crimea should become a free country or region in the near future. The people there deserve freedom. Everyone, every country, every region should get freedom in this modern world.

KHARKIV AND ZAPORIZHZHIA, Ukraine, and MOSCOW — Four Russian-occupied regions of Ukraine appeared to vote overwhelmingly in favor of joining the Russian Federation, according to early returns reported by Russian state media. Ukraine and its international partners have dismissed the highly controversial referendums as shams and a violation of international law.
